I have to say that this term is really showing me how much we as teachers need to change.I have completely changed my teaching approach and find that the students are very responsive. The shift for me has been to figure out how to encourage their voice to come out. I have to say that it is hard, our educational system has done such a job at eliminating it and as teacher we tend to reinforce this muting simply by expecting them to speak our language, to think our way and to know what we know. I had this epiphany, they don’t. They are highly critical, virtually vocal, think their own way and know a lot of things we don’t. The problem is that they see us as people who disregard them to impose our way….
